Over 50 indicators of the Spanish economy and real-estate sector

Here is the 18th issue of our GIX Report where we share the reality of the Spanish economy and real-estate sector every month.

The National Accounts data published by the Spanish Statistics Institute (INE) for the first quarter in 2022 continues to show uncertainty in the short to medium term, mostly as a result of the lower demand (consumer spending) and the imported effects of a greater uncertainty and risks of the main global economies, which have high inflation rates and also reflect the trend in the climate of consumer confidence and retail.

As for employment, the number of workers contributing to Social Security continue to record positive increases in the y-o-y rate, even more so in the tertiary sector.

As for the financial markets, it seems likely that the monetary policy shifts adopted by the U.S. Federal Reserve from an expansionary policy to a restrictive one with rate hikes will soon be seen in Europe led by the ECB.

As for the real-estate activity, the latest data available on new planning permissions shows a linear behaviour for the past months in both housing and business properties. Unsubsidised housing starts are also expected to grow in number during the coming months as the ones started last year are gradually completed.
