Economic and Real-Estate Indicators Num. 28

March 2023

Over 50 indicators of the Spanish economy and real-estate sector

Here is the 28th issue of our GIX Report where we share the reality of the Spanish economy and real-estate sector every month.

In the first two months of this year, the leading indicator for demand, the service purchasing managers’ index, and the consumer confidence climate index were optimistic in light of the expected GDP figures for the first quarter. Everything pointed to better figures than those seen at the end of 2022, with Spain being a country where for the moment recession is not expected.

The negative consequences of the rate hikes introduced to curb inflation continue and will be exacerbated, as will the slowdown in applications for loans, especially for mortgages for the next few months.

Another factor to consider is the employment statistics. This indicator has an impact on the performance of the economy and unfortunately if it increases in the short to medium term it will be a direct factor affecting the reduction of inflation, for obvious reasons.

The property sector is not performing badly, it is healthy, and the residential and other non-residential segments such as logistics, living and hotels have good prospects for this year, although demand is especially concentrated in the large cities and activity in the rest looks somewhat down.
